After you choose your wedding dress, shoes, and accessories, it’s time to think about the finishing touches to your wedding day look. Next, you’ll need to hire professional stylists for your day-of hair and makeup!

Whether or not you do your hair and makeup every day, you’ll benefit from professional help. On your wedding day, you want to look like yourself. Learn how professional stylists and artists can help you create a wedding day look that’s a put-together, flawless version of you!

Why Should I Hire Help for My Wedding Hair and Makeup?

Hiring a professional bridal hair and makeup artist ensures that your day will be as smooth and stress-free as possible. Plus, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that you look beautiful in all of your wedding photos!

Professional hair and makeup is an investment that you will be able to appreciate every time you look at your wedding pictures. Hair and beauty pros work to understand what you’re looking for as a client. So that you can look your absolute best on camera and off, these professionals will collaborate with your photographer.

It’s crucial to hire a professional hair and makeup team because they’ll help you be the most beautiful that you can be for your special day. This team will make sure you remain photo-ready the whole day.

Because let’s face it: You don’t want flyaways, shiny skin, or awkward makeup on your wedding day. Says Lea Buehler, a hair and makeup artist based out of Roseville, says, “My goal is to not only make my clients look amazing in person but amazing in photos. I make sure that the bride’s hair looks perfect from every angle and will stay in place all day. I know what makeup lasts well and photographs beautifully too.”

A professional knows how to bring out all of your best features without making you look overly done-up.

Do Your Research First

We recommend that you research and hire hair and makeup pros early in the wedding planning process so that you can secure your preferred beauty vendor. Start planning your overall wedding day look as soon as possible, and reach out to beauty professionals about six months to a year in advance.

Hire a beauty professional who frequently works weddings; they’re used to the pacing of prepping multiple people. Stylists and makeup artists who do weddings regularly develop a rhythm together, so they’re able to work quickly.

Brides need to feel and look amazing. So if you feel most beautiful in red lipstick, do it. If you feel gorgeous with your hair down in loose curls, do it. Your confidence will shine through in your wedding pictures and to all of your guests.

Avoid Bridal Trends

Many stylists recommend that you work with your hair and makeup team to create a classic look that focuses on what complements your coloring and hair type. Your timeless, classic look will leave you feeling just as beautiful for years after you say your vows.

So while you might be tempted to try a new, trendy look for your wedding day, take time to reconsider. There’s so much wedding look inspiration out there (hello, Pinterest!), so you’re going to see many popular trends. However, trying out a completely new and trendy hair or makeup look on your wedding day may not be ideal. Your hair and makeup artists should be looking to enhance your natural beauty.

Instead, focus on what makes you feel most beautiful. For example, ask yourself, “Do I feel beautiful with my hair down?” “Do I feel stunning when I apply a smoky eye?” Your answers will reveal the look that’s right for you!

Do a Trial Run (or Two!)

So that you can share ideas with your beauty pros and test a few looks, you’ll definitely need to book a trial run for your hair and makeup. Also, a trial run can help you get to know your stylists and vice versa.

A trial run allows you to get to know each other and talk about what you want for your bridal look. It also gives your team the chance to try different styles, test how they look in photos, and finalize your wedding day look. Plus, your hair and makeup pros can provide cut and color recommendations to match your wedding hairstyle.

After your initial trial run, make sure to schedule another trial closer to your wedding day to get a firm idea of what look you want. Then, to make sure you’re all on the same page, show your makeup artist and stylist photos of what you like. Pictures help beauty professionals see and realize your vision.

Most brides only need one or two trials. If you’d like to fine-tune your look, do another one. Usually, you should be able to tell if your professional is going to be able to give you what you’re looking for when you have your first trial run. Some brides book trial runs until they feel 100% confident that the professional is going to be able to deliver.

Hiring professional makeup artists and hairstylists allows you to relax and get pampered on your wedding day with the confidence of getting a look that’s perfect for you. So once you’ve selected your makeup and hair team, sit back, relax, and enjoy your big day!
